Putilshchyna is famous for its natural sights — these are mountains, rocks, forests, and water bodies, making this region one of the richest in the country in terms of endowment with natural beauties. When you come here, it is impossible not to admire the fantasy of the rocks resembling people and animals, the height of the mountains jutting into the blue sky, or «Bukovyna Sinevir» — the mountain lake «Bukovyna Eye», which rightfully bears the title of the second «mountain eye» of the country.
Lake «Bukovyna Eye» is located 52 km from the village of Putila and 1 km east of the village of Nizhny Mozhevelnik at an altitude of 1028 above sea level near the mountain Tvorilets. It reaches a depth of 10 meters. Not far from the place where the mirror-like water surface spreads over more than a hectare, there is an equally picturesque valley where the mountain rivers Yalovychora and Bely Cheremosh merge.
It is worth to come here specially — to see with your own eyes this water and forest fairy tale. Evergreen spruces and firs here come so close to the water that from the height, as in the case of Sinevir, the spruces seem to be green «eyelashes», densely framing the mirror of water reflecting the vast blue sky, which resembles an eye. In the ancient forest, which surrounds the Bukovyna Eye, there are wooden pavilions, where you can think about eternal things, dream or just relax to the calm song of nature. There is a wooden path around the lake, which seems to be centuries old. All this adds up to a marvelous landscape — being in the surroundings of which, as if you are transported to a fairy-tale world: it seems that you just have to believe, and you will see here fantastic forest creatures, friendly and benevolent.
The history of this lake is also surrounded by mystery — no one has ever found out exactly how it appeared. According to one version, it was created by man, and in favor of this opinion is the fact that a small stream flows out of it, separated from the reservoir by a dam and flows into Yalovychora. According to another version, the Bukovyna Eye is of natural origin. Whatever it is, having been here, everyone is convinced that this is one of the most amazing places on earth, another priceless treasure that Ukraine is so rich in, alluring with its natural beauties. On the one hand, Bukovyna Eye is so distant and mysterious, hidden somewhere among the vast Carpathian expanses, and on the other hand — so close and accessible, because to get to it easily can all who stay on holidays in Putila and wants to get acquainted with this marvelous natural landmark of Ukraine.
