Uzhansky National Park is a huge biosphere reserve with an area of 39.2 thousand hectares, located in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains northwest of Uzhoksky Pass near the village of Velyky Berezny and northeast of the village of Zabryd. The park is part of the International Biosphere Reserve «Eastern Carpathians» — the only reserve in the world established by three countries: Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia, with which the territory of the reserve is bordered.
The Eastern Carpathians Reserve and Uzhansky National Park is one of the most valuable ecosystems on the planet. There are ancient and virgin beech forests, plants and animals listed in the Red Book, ancient karst caves and many other natural treasures. These treasures include magnificent pictures and panoramas that open up before the eyes of a tourist while traveling along the tourist trails of the reserve.
In Užanský National Park, nature appears to man as fabulous and pure as it was hundreds and thousands of years ago all over the world before the advent of industry. Ancient forests of beech, fir, maple, mountain ash and other trees cover more than three thousand hectares of the reserve with a dense green carpet. More than 200 species of medicinal plants grow here, 40 of which are included in the Red Book. The fauna of the reserve is represented by many animals, including the rarest ones — the forest cat, black stork, golden eagle, long-tailed owl and others. In the picturesque mountain valleys there is more than one settlement, the inhabitants of which preserve their customs, culture and life, so in addition to natural treasures in the reserve you can see ancient architectural sights — wooden temples, churches of XVII-XVIII centuries.
The idea of protecting and preserving such unique territories was born back in 1912 under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, when they were part of it. Then 332 hectares were increased to 553 during the Czechoslovak period, and the territory of the reserve was enlarged to its present size in 1999.
Tourists from all over Ukraine and other countries come here to make tourist walks through ancient forests, climb mountains, visit karst caves. Any tourist route along this attraction of Zakarpattya opens an amazing world for the guest of the reserve.
Touch the mystery of the largest European meteorite that fell at the end of the XIX century in the tract of Chernye Mlaki near the village of Knyaginya. Knyaginya, walk under the shade of the tallest beeches in Europe route from the village of Kostrino through the mountain Javornik to the village of Velikiy Berezny.
