The village of Vyshka, aka Krasiya, is well known to all lovers of outdoor activities. Firstly, there are regular trainings for employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and CSR in particular. Secondly, every season skiers come here to «taste» the slopes from the mountain Krasiya, the height of which is equal to 1036 meters. For fans of skiing in the Carpathians, there are 2 ski elevators and a lot of farmsteads, where locals delight guests with picturesque interiors and the most colorful dishes of Ukrainian cuisine.
Besides skiing pleasures and the opportunity to indulge in a «green vacation» in the heart of Zakarpattya region, Vyshka guests will be offered a «trio» of quite strong local attractions. The first is a system of fortification sites known as the Arpad Line. The second is the young church of Saints Peter and Paul, built in 2010 and possessing a particle of the relics of the apostles. The third is the ancient church of St. Michael the Archangel, dating from 1695.
The authors of the Church of St. Michael remained unknown — their names have faded into oblivion. It is known only that they are the same masters who erected a well-known temple in the neighboring village of Sukhoi. Both sacral structures are made of wood, but on a stone foundation, which distinguishes them from many «colleagues» in the Carpathian region. The material used was spruce logs cut down on the slope of Krasii Mountain. The temple is a unique mixture of Boykovo and Lemkovo styles of sacral construction, so it will amaze all connoisseurs of history and architecture with its appearance.
The Church of St. Michael is an elongated rectangular structure. On such a scheme were built Lemkovo huts. But the temple is made up of 3 semi-insulated full log cabins, as it was done by the Boiks. All log cabins are slightly inclined inwardly. The middle log cabin is slightly larger than its left and right side. Each third of the temple has its own hipped top decorated with asymmetrical poppies and crosses. The entire temple is girded by a single wide roof on the first level, protecting the structure from getting wet due to rains. From the outside the church is covered with shingles, and in the middle of the church the original decor of the beginning of the XVIII century has been miraculously preserved.
Vyshkovskaya church underwent one reconstruction in the middle of the XVIII century. With the collapse of the USSR, the church was returned to the believers. The local community found funds and repaired, not restored (!) the church. The wooden roof was replaced with a shiny plaque. The silver color is not very harmonious with the color of the three hundred year old wood that remained in the base of the structure, but the building is not crumbling before our eyes, but functions as a temple.
The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Krasii village belongs to those few wooden churches in the Carpathians, which managed to survive the harsh «Soviet times». It is the oldest attraction of the village of Vyshki, which could not be overshadowed neither by the glitter of the new «green estates», nor by the tourists’ interest in ski elevators and the odious Arpad line. Staying on vacation in the Carpathians, do not spare gasoline to overcome 24 km from the district center of Velykyi Bereznyi to the center of Vyshki village to see this small sacral miracle created from the tree and body of the Carpathian mountains.
