Botanical Reserve Botanical Reserve «Black Mountain» is one of the protected areas of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. Here you can see the rarest plants and the most beautiful natural pictures, enjoy a walk through the picturesque places, the cleanest air and unity with nature.

The reserve extends on an area of 823 hectares between the village of Malaya Kopania and Vinogradovo. The botanical reserve of state importance in these picturesque places was established in 1974 in order to preserve the amazing nature, which is represented by various trees, shrubs, plants and the extraordinary landscape of the Black Mountain overhanging zamok Kankov — one of the most famous sights of Vinogradov.

Black Mountain Black Mountain rises 565 meters above sea level — it is a volcanic remnant, an island mountain, not belonging to any mountain range or massif. It is surrounded by a plain to the south, west and east, and only its northern slope is hilly and extends to the Tupoi mountain range to the northeast. On the eastern side, the Tisza River flows along the mountain, the banks of which in some parts are picturesque high rocky cliffs. On the rocky slopes and the top of the Black Mountain, the vegetation cover has been preserved in the best way, it represents a variety of trees, plants and shrubs, including rare and medicinal ones. Among such rare, uncharacteristic for the Ukrainian Carpathians representatives of flora are steppe cherry, pinnate klokichka, Austrian rakitnik, Hungarian cocklebur, furrow fescue, Transylvanian perlovka, beautiful wattle and other plants. Among the more common shrubs and plants are European bruslina, teren, turmeric, unipetal hawthorn, and forest grape.

Autumn in the preserveThe majority of the slopes of the Black Mountain are occupied by beech (northern slopes of the mountain) and oak forests. Oak is represented by several species — rock oak, multiflora, Daleshampa. There are also walnut, birch and the rarest silver lime. The slopes of the Black Mountain are the only place in Ukraine where the white-colored ash tree grows. And one more treasure of the reserve’s flora are the bushes of wild grapes, the first plantings of which appeared here in the III century. In general, the flora of the botanical reserve «Chernaya Gora» is represented by more than 400 species of plants.

Due to the fact that the reserve is located in a warm climatic zone, it is home to specific heat-loving fauna, including invertebrates. Here one can see a steppe turtle, a woad, lizards, a mole, a weasel, a polecat, a hare, a squirrel, a woodpecker, an owl, a kingfisher, a thrush, a grouse, a bear, a lynx and other animals and birds.

The flora and fauna of the preserve are rich and diverse, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of the local nature, walking along this attraction of Transcarpathia ecological trails.
