Tereblya River

Location: Kolochava

Tereblya RiverThe Tereblya River is one of the most important waterways of Transcarpathia. This river is known to many fans of outdoor activities, fishing and beautiful landscapes. It is on this river that the only reservoir in the whole Transcarpathian region was created, and tourists from all over the country and abroad come to have a rest on it.

The Tereblya is a mountain plain river, which gives birth to the famous Sinevir Lake at the foot of the Gorgan. Making its way among high mountains and large rocks, ancient forests and picturesque valleys, the waters of the Tereblya River travel 91 kilometers to its confluence with the Tisa River near the village of Bushtyna.

The valley of this river presents the guests of the region with natural pictures of breathtaking beauty. A large part of its course is squeezed by mountains on both sides, and the waters flow especially fast, whispering and foaming. However, in many places, due to the shallow depth (0.7-1.5 meters) and the crystal clarity of the Terebli waters, you can see the very bottom of the river. However, where the depth of the river is greater, it acquires a mysterious green color, presenting an amazing picture.

The rapid flow of the river keeps it frozen even in winter, so even in the cold season you can visit these places to admire the impressive scenery.

Tereblya-Rikskoye ReservoirOne of the most beautiful landscapes of the Tereblya River opens near the famous village of Mezhgorie. Here before the waters of the river was erected a serious but surmountable obstacle — a dam about 50 meters high. This place is called Tereble-Riksky reservoir — it is the only reservoir in the whole Transcarpathia. The beauty of the reservoir, spread over 9 kilometers in length and one in width, is admired by all those who have seen it with their own eyes. The mirror-like water surface, fringed on all sides by a centuries-old forest and surrounded by high mountain peaks — such a landscape mesmerizes even the most unimpressed tourists. Fishing and swimming are allowed in the reservoir in the warm season, and visitors from all over the country and even abroad come here for recreation.

Fishing and swimming are the main entertainment on the Terebla. In its upper reaches there are trout, char, grayling, in the middle reaches — chub, gudgeon, in the lower reaches — pike, loach, catfish, pikeperch, perch and other fish species. In addition to these fish species, the reservoir is home to Danube salmon, mustache, char, loach, bullhead, and sterlet and Baikal omul have been specially introduced.

In spring, during floods, the waters of Tereblya fall from the dam in a rushing waterfall — and tourists come here at this time of year to see this spectacular spectacle.

river. Tereblya river before flowing into the Tereblya-Rikskoe reservoirThe reservoir was created in the middle of the last century. It artificially connects this river with the Rika — this is how Tereblya feeds the Rika with its waters. The hydroelectric power plant located on the reservoir supplies energy not only to Transcarpathia, but also to Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, and is also consumed by Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Romania.

After the reservoir, the river does not die: its waters reassemble into a rapid flow near the village of Dragova. In the Tereblya valley there are such famous attractions of Ukraine as the villages Mezhgore and Sinevirskaya Polyana, Kolochava, Olshany, Dragovo and many other interesting places for tourists. For all those who want to see the main natural treasures, picturesque sights of Transcarpathia the Tereblya River and the reservoir created on it is a must on the tourist route, which will leave a lot of the most pleasant impressions.
