Mount Strimba

In Mezhgorsky district, famous for its numerous mountain ranges, the highest of them all is Strimba. This mountain system is famous — its highest point is among the ten highest mountains in Ukraine, is the highest in Mezhgorye and one of the highest mountains of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Climbing to this peak is memorable for a long time because of breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, amazing views, unique natural pictures.

The mountain massif stretches for more than 3 kilometers, its spine is formed by several peaks, the highest of which is Strimba. Its height is 1719 meters above sea level. The way to the top of Strimba lies through a centuries-old beech and spruce forest with many clean mountain springs and streams. Gradually the forest becomes more and more sparse, being replaced by blueberry, juniper and lingonberry bushes, mountain pines and solitary small spruces.

Some of the plants growing on Strimba are listed in the Red Data Book.

Mount Strimba

are mountain arnica, Carpathian cornflower, red and yellow gentian, and the main among them, which occupies the largest area, is the bilous, so densely covering the mountain expanses that it creates a feeling of primitive wildness of this corner of nature, pure and virgin. The ascent to Mount Strimba is an opportunity to get the most vivid impressions of the unspoiled nature, fully and in all its majesty spread before the eyes.

From the top of Strimba you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding area. As on the palm of your hand small dark spots mottle the houses of Kolochava village, closer from the height seem to be the meadows of Krasnaya and Borzhava and everywhere, wherever the eye is not directed, you can see the mountains, piercing the blue endless sky. Beautifully visible from Strimba and sharp humps of Gorgans, stretching for 75 km, the picturesque valley of the Terebli River seems fairy-tale. The landscapes opening from the highest point of Mezhigorie are breathtaking, give incredible energy, joy and ennoble the soul.

In 2008 on the top of Strymba people’s deputies and residents of the village of Kolochava installed a large oak tree on the top of Strymba. Every year in August, as part of the celebration of the Ukrainian Flag Day, a huge flag is hoisted here, which is visible from all vantage points on the mountain.

The landscape of Strimba is a vast scattering of greenish stones, typical for Gorgan, among which it is impossible not to make an association with a mountain desert, gentle mountain meadows and even small lakes. The lakes fill up during precipitation, which is not uncommon at such a high altitude, and become home to the Carpathian newt, which is listed in the Red Book.

Undoubtedly, one can speak of Mount Strimba as the most beautiful attraction of Transcarpathia, its majesty and splendor beckons, calls to the mountain range directed to the sky. Conquering such impregnable and proud sights of Ukraine, you can feel an incredible burst of strength, unity with nature, remember how amazing is the beauty that surrounds man.
