The museum was established in 2008 by businessman, intellectual and patron of art V. Morokhovsky on the basis of a unique collection of works by masters of the «second wave of the Odessa avant-garde» of the famous collector M. Knobel.
The MSIO presents the best works of Odessa fine art of the turn of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
The pride of the museum are the halls dedicated to the unofficial art of Odessa:
- «Odessa’s first Soviet abstractionist, artist, poet and dissident O. Sokolov»;
- «Fence» exhibition of V. Khrushch and S. Sychev in 1967 — the first unauthorized artistic action in the USSR;
- reconstruction of apartment exhibitions of nonconformists of the 70s;
- Odessa conceptual group of the 80s;
- «Southern Russian» transavantgarde of the 80s-90s;
- contemporary communication between the artist and the City;
The section of the newest trends makes sure that the visual arts of Odessa are actively developing, as it should be in the cultural capital of Ukraine!
The Museum has an exhibition hall where exhibitions of contemporary art, scientific conferences and various art projects are held.
The Museum Club of aesthetic education and youth exhibition space «Arteria» are open.
The ISIO exposition is located on two floors in an old mansion — an architectural monument.
