Ask any historian of literature or philologist what most of all inspired the famous poet of the Golden Age Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, and you will hear the invariable answer: «Love and Crimea!». To be more precise, love for the South Coast of Crimea, the beauty of which Alexander Sergeevich immortalized forever with rhymes in the stanzas of his poetic creations.
Without Pushkin’s visit to the Crimea, he probably would never have created «The Prisoner of the Caucasus», the work on which was begun in Gurzuf. And «Eugene Onegin» would be deprived of Gurzuf pictures. And it was Gurzuf that Pushkin considered to be the «cradle» of his world-famous literary hero….
However, not only the poet immortalized the South Coast of Crimea, but the Crimea immortalized the poet. The brightest example of this is the Pushkin Museum in Gurzuf, which is not overlooked by any guidebook describing the sights of Crimea. However, not only Pushkin’s «stuffing» attracts tourists from all over the world to this house. The building, which now houses the museum, is an old European building, the process of construction of which took three years, starting in 1808 and ending in 1811. The Duke Armand Du Plessis de Richelieu was the author of the project of the air castle, which is how the people dubbed this building.
Time did not stand still, it flew, rushed, rushed forward, one by one changing the owners of this masterpiece of architecture. At one time the estate, where nowadays the Pushkin Museum is located, was owned by such famous surnames as Vorontsov, Funduklei and Gubonin. Each of them left their weighty imprint on the prosperous resort, which over time turned into a modest dacha lurking in the sage fields and olive groves of Gurzufskaya Bay….
Today the Pushkin Museum is protected by guards-trees and decorated with scatterings of flowers. And the old cypress, keeping the secrets of the then still young Poet, stands in its rightful place. Right next to the museum stands a majestic sycamore tree. It was planted on the anniversary of Alexander Sergeyevich’s death to preserve the memory of Pushkin’s stay in Gurzufskaya Bay forever.
It turns out that the life story can be fit into several rooms. The Crimean period of the great poet’s life was placed in six rooms: the central exposition of the Pushkin Museum in Gurzuf occupies six halls. Comparatively recently — in 2007 — in the Pushkin Museum was opened the memorial study of Boris Viktorovich Tomashevsky — an outstanding philologist-Pushkinist, who was the initiator of the creation of this museum.
…Many travelers coming to this Pushkin’s land, decorated with herbs, rhymes and flowers, rush in search of the famous Lukomorye. They say, as if it lurks somewhere in Gurzufsky Bay, in a cozy place on the shore of the…
If we had to put all sights of Ukraine in one book edition, the weight of this encyclopedia would be unbearable. Yes, our country is indeed rich in iconic places and architectural monuments. However, the Pushkin Museum in Gurzuf is probably the only place in Ukraine, where the people’s path is not overgrown. It seems that the prophecy has come true, it has come true….
