Old residents of Kamyanets-Podolsky say that it is thanks to this monastery that the walls of the famous Kamyanets fortress are still standing. It is a small church with a huge center of faith thanks to the Orthodox Christians who have been praying to the heavens in this place for centuries. For a long time this church was the only Orthodox church in the city, it is older than the other Orthodox churches of Kamyanets-Podilskyi by more than a century.
Krestovozdvizhenskaya, or, as it was originally called, Zdvizhenskaya Church is the only surviving in the city ancient wooden temple, built according to the best traditions of Podolsk wooden architecture. For believers — it is a sacred place, for others to see this church will be interesting because it is the most original structure, built without a single steel nail.
According to legend, it was suggested by Hetman Petro Saidagachny to establish an Orthodox church under the walls of the Kamenets castle. On his way to Kiev, which passed through Kamenets-Podolsky, wounded at the Battle of Khotyn in 1621, the hetman, passing by the powerful fortress walls of the castle, thought that their defensive power would become even stronger, if not only powerful rocks, but also faith would support them. Then the hetman imagined a wooden, light as a prayer church, which was soon afterwards built under the castle walls.
The location of the church not within the Old Town, but down below — under the castle walls, is considered symbolic for another reason — it was the first stronghold of Orthodoxy in the city. The church was built in the valley of the Smotrich River surrounding the Old Town, in the suburb of Karvasary. The architects built the church on a high stone foundation so that it would not flood during floods. 
However, not this misfortune awaited the monastery in the future — in the middle of the XVII century the Turks who invaded the city burned down the church.
Restoration of the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross was carried out in 1799-1801 years, the new building was built exactly the same as the previous one, as if there was no fire. The light three-brick church turned out to be unusual: square logs were crowned with a hipped top, giving the building its originality. When you look at this colorful church, you immediately get a feeling of antiquity, antiquity, and its quiet, modest appearance, finishing only of wood and a simple Orthodox cross mounted on the dome, reminiscent of the times of the Old Believers and Old Believers.
In 1863 a bell tower was erected next to the church from the western side. In the one-domed church, which had one entrance through the porch on the north side, another one appeared — from the north wall of the bell tower. Since then no changes have been made in the architectural ensemble of the church — centuries later it can be seen as it was in the early-mid XIX century.
For many people visiting this attraction of Kamenets-Podolskiy plays a huge role. The place where the ancient temple stands is considered to be molten and holy.
