One of the professions that went into the past in the middle of the XX century was the profession of bokorash — masters of rafting. In Mezhgorsky district, where logging was one of the main activities, not far from the village Sinevirskaya Polyana, the memory of this profession was kept by a unique hydraulic structure, which for a long time was the Museum of Timber Floating.
The Museum of Timber Floating was established in the 1990s on the Czerny River in the place where from the XVIII and up to the middle of the XX century bokorashis harvested timber and floated it down the river for sale in Hungary. In the middle of the 19th century, a dam and a gate for water discharge were built near the river. Thus, in the XIX century a unique hydraulic structure was formed on the Chernaya River.
With the demise of the bokorash profession in the 1960s, the dam ceased to fulfill its direct purpose and remained empty for a long time, then a museum was established, which operated until 2001, when the structure was almost completely destroyed by a severe flood.
In the Museum of Timber floating — it was possible to see ancient lifting mechanisms of XVIII-XIX centuries, bridges, vehicles, various tools and instruments of work of bokorashas. Nowadays, the surviving exhibits are kept in the Museum of Timber Floatation and Local History in the NPP «Synevir».
