Zatoka is a village of only 1700 people. It would have remained a little-known, provincial town if it had not been located in the south-eastern part of Odessa region, on the very shore of the Black Sea. Zatoka was founded in 1827, as a settlement serving navigational signs and a lighthouse in Tsargradsky girle. It is a strait in the Budakskaya kosa, located between the Dnestrovsky liman and the already mentioned sea.
Due to its geographical position, Zatoka is one of the most important transport centers of the south of Ukraine. Through its razvodnoj-most-zatoki.html»>razvodnoj-most-zatoki.html»>razvodnoj-most-zatoki.html bridge transits almost all the traffic along the Izmail-Odessa line.
All the above-mentioned advantages — the sea, the Dniester estuary, the smell of not far Odessa and the drawbridge, could not be used by the association «KVN Ukraine». This is a domestic version of the world-famous brand «KVN». The association appeared in 1994. It was registered as a youth organization. Today it consists of «only» 200 teams. The Association and its products — games, festivals and newspaper, are patronized by the best KVN players of Ukraine and Israel. For example, Mikhail Agranat — captain of the CIS national team, Marina Poplavskaya — a girl from Zhytomyr, and Volodymyr Vygovsky — executive director of the association «KVN Ukraine».
By the way, it was Mr. Vygovsky who had the idea to hold his own KVN festival in his native country, which was supposed to overshadow a similar tournament in Sochi. As a venue was chosen so comprehensively favorable Zatoka. The name «Pearl by the Sea» was borrowed from Odessa for such an occasion.
Traditionally, the festival is held on the basis of the boarding house «Ruta», able to take all members of hundreds of teams, which seek to demonstrate their talents to the invited jury. What do the young KVN players show to the axacals of humor?
First, a funny business card, which is limited in time to 4 minutes.
Secondly, a competition-improvisation, the theme of which the participants learn shortly before the performance.
Thirdly, young KVN-ers show «homework», on the topic, which is attached to the confirmation of application for participation.
In addition, necessarily passes and highly appreciated by the jury «Championship warm-up». 5 questions to the competitors athletes of the intellectual genre bring from home. On 5 other people’s questions they have to answer by their own efforts right on the stage. The most talented presenters and «KVN-paparazzi» are evaluated individually.
At the request of the participants, they can present to the jury and the audience a small video on an arbitrary topic. Teams may perform in Russian or Ukrainian.
