Ilyichevsk Commercial Sea Port is a modern international highly mechanized universal transport hub specializing in transshipment of general, liquid, bulk and dry bulk cargoes.
The port occupies a key position at the junction of the main transportation routes between Europe and Asia, North and South, Central and Eastern Europe, industrially developed areas of Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and sea communications leading through the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.
Ukraine’s international relations with almost 100 countries of the world are carried out through the port.
Ilyichevsk Commercial Sea Port, one of the largest ports in Ukraine, is located on the banks of the Dry Liman 12 miles southwest of Odessa. Coordinates: latitude — 46°19’N, longitude — 30°41’E.
Location of the port in the deep-water estuary, connected with the sea by an inlet channel, creates natural protection of the water area from waves and currents, and also favors year-round navigation. In case of ice formation, the port tugboats perform the navigation.
Sufficient depths at the water approaches and in the water area, absence of complicated approach channels, narrows and channels favor navigation of large-capacity fleet.
Temperature, wind and wave conditions in the port create comfortable conditions for receiving ships.
The developed infrastructure of connections with adjacent modes of transport, primarily railroad and automobile, and proximity to the main transport artery of the country — Kiev-Odessa highway — allows to deliver cargoes efficiently.
The port provides a full range of stevedoring services year-round, 24 hours a day.
A wide network of agency and forwarding companies cooperating with IMTP in servicing the fleet and cargo owners operates near the port and on its territory.
The port has:
— production capacity for transshipment of more than 30 million tons of cargo per year;
— a berthing line with a total length of about 6000 meters with modern berths No. 1-29;
— storage areas allowing to accommodate 1.5 million tons of various cargoes. The area of open warehouses is 575 thousand m2, covered warehouses — 27 thousand m2;
— navigational depths: on the outer roadstead — 21 m; on the approach channel — 16 m; at the berths — 7.5-14 m;
— railroad infrastructure — six railroad entrances to the port, more than 50 km of railroad tracks equipped with the necessary transshipment equipment; railroad fronts provide car turnover of up to 1300 cars per day;
— road infrastructure with a well-developed network of internal highways, which allows vehicles to enter the port through 5 port entrances;
— own auxiliary fleet.
The most important characteristic of Ilyichevsk port is its universality. Specialized terminals of the port with a large fleet of transshipment equipment and cargo-handling devices allow to transship a wide range of cargoes — general cargoes, including containers and cargoes transported by «ro-ro» vessels, bulk cargoes, liquid cargoes. The port responds flexibly to changing conditions of foreign trade, emergence and development of new cargo flows.
