Shchelkino is a small but very interesting resort town. First, it is located on the northern shore of the Kerch Peninsula and washed by the warmest waters of the Sea of Azov. Secondly, only 50-75 km away from it are the ancient Kerch, burial mounds, mud volcanoes and Arabatskaya strelka. Each of the listed objects is unique in its kind and is a source of pride not only for Crimea, but also for the whole Ukraine.
Thirdly, in Soviet times, the city became a place where the construction of the All-Union scale boiled over — all so shocking and Komsomol. The era faded away, but thanks to it, there are still working solar and wind power plants in the city. This fact allows us to talk about the high level of purity of the atmosphere and coastal waters in Shelkino. The absence of industrial facilities in the city only contributes to the transformation of this settlement into the most ecologically perfect resort of Ukraine.
Fourthly, the city has sandy beaches, which many times have been awarded the title of «the best in Crimea» by experts and vacationers. They start from the village Mysovoye and end at the protected area Cape Kazantip. Or rather, they do not end, but only numerous birds and other wildlife are allowed access to the beaches of the protected area. Common for all the beaches of Shchelkino is that they are: a) free; b) sandy; c) wide — about 20 meters, which allows to place on their territory not only tents, cafes, rental equipment, but also a large number of holidaymakers.
The main beach of Shchelkino is «Central Beach». It is remote from the nearest houses distance of at least 500 meters, so it allows you to compare local landscapes with the famous Spanish Costa Dorada, Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca. The central beach starts from the pier of Mysovoye village and ends at the recreation center «Riga». Its length is equal to 5 km, so it has enough space for comfortable reclining on the sand for all guests of the city. In addition, here are freely placed working points of traders of souvenirs, tea houses, kebab shops, dumplings and other points of inexpensive snacks, as well as water slides, mini-pools and trampolines for kids. Similarity with the advanced European resorts of Shchelkino is given by the presence of rental shops for scuba diving equipment and support points of instructors, ready to organize for guests sessions of windsurfing, kitesurfing, as well as riding on primitive bananas and pucks.
Tatar beach takes over the recreational baton from the Central beach. Its length is equal to 25 km and it stretches along the coastline of the entire Kazantip Bay, from Mysovoye village to the demarcation line of the reserve «Kazantip». Small shells are embedded in the sand on Tatar beach, and the density of vacationers per square meter of this beach falls to the level of density of recreationists on a desert island.
Another couple of beaches confined to Shchelkino are the shores of Shirokoy Bay and Cosmonauts Bay. They look like landscapes of other worlds. This impression is formed due to the fact that they Shirokaya and Cosmonauts Bay are isolated from the main territory of the peninsula by low coastal cliffs.
Well, the main, fifth factor of why thousands of tourists became interested in rest in Shelkino, was the festival «KaZaantip», held on the territory of the cape of the same name. Electronic music, night discos, informals and a special atmosphere of freedom made the local beaches the most fashionable place holiday in Crimea in this century!
