If we imagine what the all-Ukrainian epicenter of attractions and all sorts of natural wonders looks like, one of these hypothetical «Aladdin’s caves» is certainly the Genic Strait. It divides the mainland part of Ukraine (Kherson region) and the spit Arabatskaya arrow. It connects the Sivash bay lake with the waters of the Sea of Azov.
If you look at the map, the Genic Strait looks like a thin broken branch. The first part of it is called Slim Strait, the second from ancient times earned the name — Promoina. The total length of the strait is 4 km with a depth of 4.6 meters. Therefore, only vessels with small displacement — boats, yachts and boats can move through it. The actual width of the Genic Strait varies from 80 to 150 meters.

And now let’s go through its closest neighbors, that is, those objects that are included in the treasury of the Genichesky Bay. If by seniority, the first place in the list of local attractions is given to the Sea of Azov. This body of water belongs to the basin of the Atlantic Ocean and is the shallowest on earth. Its depth only limited the use of this part of the world ocean in human industrial activity and saved it from total pollution. The Azov Sea generously shares its biological resources with peaceful pilgrims and small vessels.
76 species of fish live, spawn or fatten up in this water body. Beluga and Sevruga, herring and pikeperch, bream and taran, hamsa and mullet, kalkan and mackerel, mackerel and sterlet stay in the Sea of Azov at different times and at certain times get into the nets, on the nets or fishing rods of fishermen. In addition, along the coast of the «little brother» of the Black Sea there are quite nice and the most inexpensive resorts in Ukraine.

The second place in the list of wonders confined to the Genic Strait is occupied by the Sivash Bay Lake. Because of the odor that exudes this body of water, locals often call this object Rotten Sea. The salinity of Sivash in the southern part reaches 87‰, so the local brine is a valuable mineral resource. Thanks to Sivash and its 200 million tons of salts, the activities of Perekop bromine, Crimean soda and titanium-phosphorus plants are provided with raw materials for several hundred years.
Arabatskaya Spit, which limits the Genic Strait from the south, is a giant hundred-kilometer beach on the shore of the smallest and warmest Azov Sea. Rest on the steepest spit of Ukraine can be enriched with therapeutic or preventive procedures in the waters of several thermal mineral springs or balneotherapy. This is possible due to the presence of small lakes on the spit, the bottom of which is lined with sapropel silt mud.
Arabatskaya arrow is connected with the «mainland» by an automobile bridge. It leads travelers directly to the walls of ancient Genichesk — a resort and once a popular trading port. On holiday in Genichesk you can not only relax and eat fresh fish, but also take part in the excavations of several fortresses — Genoese and Crimean Tatar, which were mapped by the Flemish cartographer Ortelius. In order to visit the Azov region, you will not need visas and plane tickets, but the quality of your vacation in the vicinity of the Tonky Strait can be envied by citizens of all the countries closest to Ukraine.
