Today Genichesk is recognized as one of the most interesting resorts in the south of Ukraine. And this is despite the fact that this town is located on the border between the Sea of Azov and the vast expanses of the Kherson steppe, and the surrounding landscapes are varied only by the views of the Arabatska arrow, distanced from it only by the Thin strait.
Genichesk appeared in XIV-XV centuries. The role of the town builder is attributed to the Crimean Khanate, which regularly tried to expand its possessions and brought military fortifications outside the peninsula. The peak of economic development of the then still state-owned village fell on the end of XIX century, when wheat «arnautka» was grown on the peninsula Chongar belonging to Genichesk. Not only Russian, but also French and English merchant ships lined up for it, salt and smoked fish in the local port.
In order to change the status of the «backwater» resort and attract more tourists in the beginning of the XXI century Genicia district administration, with the support of the Kherson Regional Department of Culture and Tourism, as well as the local Center of Folk Art, initiated the festival «Tavriyska Rodina» in the city.
On August 26, 2005 the first festival started. Domestic and foreign groups working in folk genre — mainly choirs, dance groups or ensembles — are invited to «Tavriyska Rodina». The event is sponsored by the regional and district budget and entrepreneurs interested in guests.
The basic program of the festival «Tavriyska Rodina» includes the following items:
1. show «Opening». Local theater groups welcome guests. In recent years, the event metamorphosed into a real ethno-carnival, although the Brazilians have not yet come to the action.
2. «Friendship Match». Genic team «Azovets» plays with a team made up of participants of the action.
3. The festival itself. On the stage alternately perform invited folklore groups.
4. Gala concert. The strongest ensembles once again demonstrate their talents to the guests of Genichesk, receiving diplomas and memorable prizes. In the past year the bright closing coincided with the celebration of the Independence Day of Ukraine.
5. Parallel to the stage performances work «National farmsteads». At them the cooks who came with the groups cook and treat tourists with their traditional dishes — Tatar, Ukrainian, Russian, Jewish, Hutsul, Hungarian and Estonian.

After all, just for the sake of touching this ethnic fireworks, on holiday in Genichesk every year comes more and more people. What actually achieved the administration and free entrepreneurs of this city.
