The Tuzlovsky complex of the Black Sea estuaries is of great importance for the maintenance of biological diversity not only in the region, but also globally, as it serves as a nesting and wintering place during seasonal migrations of a large number of wetland birds, as well as the stay of a number of species from the Red Book of Ukraine and the European Red List. In general, this area plays an important role in the natural functioning and interaction of coastal ecosystems of the Black Sea.

The greatest richness of the Tuzlovski group of limans, which gives them uniqueness, is the bird fauna. Sandy-silt islands and spits, reed beds, solonchak areas, seaside sandy overflow, clay cliffs constitute wetlands of international importance. Besides, among other types of lands in the vicinity of the Tuzlovskie limans there are artificial forest plantations, as well as insignificant steppe areas, which exist mainly on the terraces of the liman slopes. On this territory there are 243 species of birds of 19 genera, 28 of them are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine; it is a nesting ground for about 25 000 pairs of wetland birds and up to 100 000 individuals forming seasonal aggregations; on the territory of the estuaries there is a large number of ducks, geese, waders, which are indicators of the ecological state of the lands; serve as a wintering ground for more than 1% of the European nesting population of Red-breasted Goose, etc.

In places where rivers and springs flow into limans, «secondary» limans are formed in the territory: around Shagana — Magalevskoye, Martaz and Budur, around Alibey — Karachaus and Hadjider, between Alibey and Burnas — Kurudiol, in the north of Burnas — Soleniy. On the territory of the Park in accordance with the environmental legislation the following zones are allocated: protected zone, zone of regulated recreation, zone of stationary recreation, economic zone. For each zone, taking into account its scientific, recreational, historical-cultural and other values of natural complexes and objects, a differentiated regime with regard to their protection, reproduction and use is established.
