The lush Ukrainian land has received many gifts from Mother Nature: picturesque plains and seashores, mighty rivers and steeply curved mountains. Morshyn’s mineral waters belong to the gifts of the Earth, which bring healing, healing the body and soothing the human soul.
The town of Morshyn itself is located in the south of Lviv region. During the reign of Austria-Hungary over this territory, it was considered one of the most advanced resorts in Europe, making a worthy competition to the liquid mineral resources of Czech Karlovy Vary, German Baden-Baden, Italian Chianciano Terme. An additional factor to the choice of recreation in Morshin can be reserves of ozokerite and peat mud, the presence of which can boast only 3 resorts in Germany, the same Karlovy Vary, 3 resorts in Croatia and resorts in Ukraine, located in the eastern part of Crimea. On Morshyn land combined the possibilities of treatment with mineral water and mud, which gave the city the fame of one of the best balneological resorts in Ukraine and all of Europe.
Official, pompous opening of the resort «Mineral Waters of Morshyn» occurred in 1880, thanks to the rapid activity, which was developed by Mr. Steller, the owner of the aquiferous lands. Staying on vacation in Morshyn, guests will be able to «see» the entire Steller family in the names of the springs from which the healing liquid oozes. For example, the main mine well No. 1, cleaned back in 1879, is named «Boniface» in honor of the former owner. Spring No. 2 is named after his wife Magdalena. No. 3 is named in honor of daughter Ludmila, and No. 5 in honor of son Adam. Number four, which exudes de-mineralized water, was named after the Mother of God, which emphasizes the special purity of the water.
Today only three springs of Morshyn’s mineral waters are actively exploited. They are No. 1, No. 6 and No. 4. Each of them is designed to work with its «target audience». The main one in this resort of Ukraine is the source «Boniface» or #1. It exudes chloride-sulfate-sodium-potassium-magnesium liquid with a high level of mineralization. Such water is a reliable support for doctors involved in the treatment of digestive organs. It is prescribed for gastritis-colitis-pancreatitis, to stimulate the stomach. It prevents the formation of gallstones, normalizes the processes of digestion and secondary food processing.
This source is connected with the spa’s business card — the «Fungus» cistern. It is located in the city center, on Parkova Square. It is surrounded by a small park with antique sculptures. This symbol of Morshyn’s mineral waters was built in 1935 by the team of Marjan Nikodemovich, a famous architect and teacher of Lviv Polytechnic. The «Hrybok» itself can be compared to a three-tiered pagoda, with a bust column at its base, surrounded by a dozen supporting columns. The roof of the first tier has the largest diameter, remotely resembling a mushroom. The second and third tiers of roofs are considerably smaller and are separated from the first by a small superstructure. From Nikodemovich’s construction there are alleys to other mineral water bouquets in Morshyn, to the water and mud cure, to the chapel, to the railway station and to some sanatoriums.
The mineral waters of Morshyn, the exploitation of which began already in the Soviet Ukraine, include spring No. 6. The chemical composition of its magic liquid is similar to the resource «Bonifacius», but has an increased content of magnesium sulfates, potassium and reduced — sodium chloride. Such a «balneological set» is effective in restoring the functions of the stomach, stimulating the work of the liver and gallbladder. In addition, it takes part in the normalization of metabolism and restoration of acid-base balance in the whole body, and potassium-magnesium balance in its cells. The products of the sixth source of mineral water Morshyn are used to reduce the number of pathogenic microorganisms that live in the large intestine and used as a detoxifier. Those who regularly come on vacation to Morshyn know that the consumption of this particular liquid leads to weight loss with a prolonged effect.
The water of the source of the Mother of God — No. 4 is compared to the effect of Jordanian water. It has a minimal level of mineralization, but contains organic carbon and characteristic microflora, which determines its healing role. Jordanian water, which is produced by the resort of Ukraine, has an anesthetic function. It levels inflammatory processes in the digestive, excretory and reproductive organs. It removes radionuclides and prevents diathesis.
