Yablunetsky Pass in the Eastern Carpathians is a place very famous for many reasons. Visitors from different parts of Ukraine and other countries come here in search of unity with nature, recovery of organism, active rest, acquaintance with historical places, enjoyment of inspiring landscapes and extraordinary beauty of local nature. Everyone finds something different here, and everyone who has been here has only the best memories.
The pass is located on the south-western outskirts of the village Yablunitsa on the historical Hutsul land — the land of the indigenous peoples of the Carpathians, who have lived here for centuries. In the villages of Yablunitsa, as well as in Yaremche, located 35 km from the pass, you can see many sights, get acquainted with the culture and life of the Hutsuls.
The height of the pass above sea level is 931 meters, the opening panoramas on the mountain valleys and the peaks of the Carpathian mountains going behind the clouds are breathtaking and leave the most vivid impressions. There are many stories about the nature of the Ukrainian Carpathians — it amazes everyone who was lucky enough to breathe in this revitalizing and energizing mountain air, to plunge into the incredible atmosphere of these places, having seen them with their own eyes.
Often Yablonitsky pass is called Tatar — it is here, through the place where the valleys of the Black Tisa and Prut rivers join, in the XIII century the Tatar-Mongols passed to south-western Europe. And more than once this pass involuntarily became a landmark in historical events. Here passed an important route between Hungary and the Principality of Galicia, then between Transylvania and Poland. And during the Second World War during several weeks of fierce battles between the Nazi invaders and the Soviet troops, which ended with the victory of the latter. To commemorate those events, two monuments were erected on the pass: a memorial stele and a cross in honor of Ukrainian patriots who gave their lives for the independence of the region.
Today Yablunetsky Pass divides the borders of Ivano-Frankivsk and Transcarpathian regions, here passes the most mountainous highway of Ukraine, linking Prikarpattya and Transcarpathia. There is also a railroad running through the picturesque mountainous area — the train running between Rakhiv and Kolomyia disappears here four times in stone tunnels piercing the tops of high mountains.
The location in the most beautiful area, transportation links with Yaremche, Uzhgorod and Ivano-Frankivsk, various mountain slopes attract tourists to Yablunetsky Pass at any time of the year. In winter it turns into one of the most popular ski resorts in Ukraine, in spring and fall people come here to enjoy the beautiful views and relax from the hustle and bustle of the cities, to recover and gain strength, and in summer the pass and the village of the same name become a starting point for those who love to conquer mountain peaks. From the pass there are tourist routes to Hoverla, Petros, nearby mountains Sinyak, Dovbushanka, Khomyak and other peaks of the Carpathians.
In the village of Yablunitsa guests can try the dishes of national Hutsul cuisine, and you can stay here both with locals, renting a room, and in modern cottages, recreation centers and resorts. Thanks to the healing climate, the purest mountain air and therapeutic springs flowing in the mountains during the rest in this attraction of Zakarpattya you can recover, energize and gain strength.
