Vinnichi residents joined geocachers

Treasure hunting has long been a fascinating and often lucrative activity for energetic people. With the advent of the Internet and satellite navigation, a new modern game has emerged — geocaching, which is based on the idea of searching for geo-located geocaches using GPS receivers. These geocaches are created by participants of the game in places of natural, historical, cultural or geographical interest. The contents of the geocache («treasure») can be relatively inexpensive but interesting things. It is accompanied by a notebook in which the game participant must make a note. After taking the «treasure» of the geocache and leaving his own in return, the geocacher reports it on the geocaching site without revealing the secret of the geocache. There are also virtual geocaches, whose creators offer to visit some interesting place.

In England, France and many other European countries, this game is already popular not the first year. By the way, vacation in the Czech Republic is also famous for geocaching, because there are about 16 thousand geocaches, more than the United States.

Currently, the number of geocaches around the world exceeds two hundred thousand and is constantly increasing. In particular, in Ukraine in 2010 — 2011 years they appeared over a thousand. Mostly Ukrainian geocaches are located in the Crimea and Western regions, where there are many historical monuments and protected nature. Recently, Vinnitsa region appeared on the map of geocaches in Ukraine, where geocachers created the first 38 geocaches.

Modern geocaching has become a unique type of tourism that combines high technology and outdoor travel. According to an IT journalist, «geocaching has gotten adults and children out of the house for long hikes, swimming, climbing and other treasure-hunting delights.» It is a game for tourists who want to see as much as possible, more detailed acquaintance with the history and nature of the area in which they are traveling.
