Ukrainian Transcarpathia offers fans of active recreation a new interesting geotourist route «Minerals of Transcarpathia». It is developed by specialists of the Department of Tourism of Uzhgorod National University together with representatives of the Transcarpathian tourism center.
The geography of the route consists of two sections: the first — Uzhgorod — Vorochevo — Olenevo-Kosino; the second — Beregovo — Muzhievo — Solotvino — Delovoye. On the way tourists will not only enjoy the marvelous nature of Transcarpathia, but also visit mineralogical museums, ancient mines and mines. They will also have an opportunity to try to search for minerals, extract gold and make collections of minerals of the Carpathians.
In each of the places included in the route there are still preserved areas where mineral prospecting was carried out. In Uzhgorod there is an old quarry where E.F. Gleker discovered opal, a very beautiful stone, in 1839. In the Vorochevo area, various kinds of garnets are found in crystalline schists and gneisses. Rock crystal, kaolin, rock salt, radonite and other minerals are found in the rich Carpathian soil. Finally, in the zone of Delovoye and Muzheyev, tourists will try to wash in the river or extract Ukrainian gold in the gold mines.
Geotourism along ancient mines and mines with a visit to mineralogical museums and an opportunity to make mineral collections on their own is a new kind of tourism in Ukraine. The terrain of the Transcarpathian region, its diverse geological heritage and
rich nature attract the attention of more and more fans of active recreation, wishing to familiarize themselves with the riches of our land.
