On June 23, 2013, the 37th session of UNESCO, held in Phnom Penh (Kingdom of Cambodia), decided to include two more cultural monuments of Ukraine in the UNESCO World Heritage List — the National Reserve «Chersonesos Tavrichesky» in the nomination «The Ancient City of Chersonesos Tavrichesky and its Chora. We would also like to remind you that several other Crimean sights have chances to get on the UNESCO list. Among them are Sudak Genuez Fortress and the whole Bakhchisaray district together with Bakhchisaray. This was reported in 2012 by Leon Lora Jose Roman, the first counselor of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine.
All the guests who spoke at the solemn event unconditionally supported the decision of UNESCO, warmly thanked Ukrainian and foreign scientists and specialists, employees of the Reserve for the preservation and restoration of the unique historical city-state. They also expressed deep confidence that the new status of the monument of Hellenic culture will contribute to the improvement of the level of scientific research and educational activities of the Reserve, the expansion of international scientific cooperation, the restoration of the traditional character and historical landscapes within the boundaries of the Heraclean Peninsula, as well as to the enhancement of cultural potential and activation of tourism of Sevastopol.
The solemn events on the territory of the National Reserve ended with a theatrical performance of the origin, development and revival of the ancient Chersonesos of Tauris.
On the occasion of awarding the National Reserve «Chersonesos Tavrichesky» UNESCO certificate, the state enterprise «Ukrposhta» produced a personalized stamp «Chersonesos Tavrichesky», which depicts a basilica built in the VI century.
