Rastorguev-Kharitonov Estate - a pearl of beauty and grandeur of Yekaterinburg

Among the places of interest in Yekaterinburg, it is impossible to ignore the beautiful complex of several buildings located in the area of Voznesenskaya Hill. It is a majestic building in the classicist style — the Rastorguev-Kharitonov estate.

Each palace has its own history…

The architectural pearl of the Ural capital is really called a palace. The scale of the structure impresses not only by the size and number of buildings, but also by its amazing beauty, the harmony of skillfully selected forms.

The beginning of the construction of the ensemble, which included, in addition to the main building, a farmyard, stables, various types of fences, a park with a small lake, fell at the end of the 18th century. A certain S.A. Isakov, who held the position of provincial secretary, began construction of the house on the allotted plot, but just a couple of years later he was gone. The merchant L.I.Rastorguev bought the perfectly located plot of land and immediately laid the foundation for the main building with two floors.

Legends enveloping the estate

The name of the architect who was able to think through the architecture of the magnificent palace became the property of history. Still passed on the story that Lev Ivanovich was bought for a considerable sum of money architect, who was sitting in the casemates of Tobolsk. The merchant never kept his promise to release the master. At the end of his business it was said that he either hanged himself or became insane.

Among other shrouding secrets is the hiding place of the Old Believers, who were actively persecuted. Rastorguev allegedly hid them in a huge dungeon under the house, and then helped them leave by hidden passages.

Unhappy love with the drowning of one of the merchant’s daughters — pure fiction, most likely born from lack of information. Both of Rastorguev’s daughters lived to a ripe old age.

Beauty, timeless

Those wishing to enjoy the grandeur of the estate and get a closer look at the most interesting architectural ensemble are invited to hotels in Yekaterinburg, of which can help with booking excursions both to the famous architectural and park complex and to the city itself.

Visitors are told that the construction was fully completed around 1824. After Rastorguev’s death, the inherited palace was occupied by the families of merchant daughters — Kharitonovs and Zotovs. However, by the middle of the 19th century the estate was already empty, and it was decided to rent it to those in need of housing. There was no one to maintain the buildings in proper condition, and the complex began to gradually deteriorate.

Almost all the turbulent events of history affected the manor with its wing. Red Guards and pioneers were accommodated here. The reconstruction carried out in the 30s returned the original appearance of the building ensemble, but the layout of the interior premises changed dramatically due to multiple rebuildings.

Kharitonovsky Park, whose name was returned in 1987, is a unique example of landscape design from the distant 19th century. Comparatively recently, a sensory garden and an ecocenter were organized here, where children, including those with disabilities, learn to care for and observe wildlife.

Beauty delights, heals, and helps regardless of how long ago it was created.
