For many travelers and tourists, a stay in Yekaterinburg is not without visiting one of the most beautiful buildings in the city — the Holy Trinity Cathedral. The monumental building is characterized by stunning beauty and the inspiration present in it, which distinguishes the main temples of Yekaterinburg. The inexhaustible spiritual forces of many representatives of the Old Believer Church are forever brought under the domes of the main attraction of the Ural capital.
How it all began
The Holy Trinity Church has a long and quite interesting history. The year of birth of the cathedral is considered to be 1818. The Ryazanov family, well-known merchants engaged in gold mining, lent money for the erection of an Old Believer temple. At that time the Old Believers were oppressed, so the construction was incredibly slow. Thirty years had passed since the beginning of construction, but the church was still not finished. The conversion of Y.M.Ryazanov to the co-religionists made it possible to consecrate a side chapel in 1839, and by 1852 the whole cathedral.
The temple, which is called Ryazanov’s, was known as the richest in Yekaterinburg. When the Bolsheviks fought with religious heritage, about 60 kg of silver were taken out of the Church of the Holy Trinity, the icon of the Mother of God of Kazan was confiscated, and 132 diamonds were counted in its frame.
Then the cathedral was closed, redevelopment was carried out, the dome and bell tower were demolished and the location of the House of Culture «Automobilist» was approved. The House of Culture hosted concerts, performances by visiting artists, and the walls heard the acoustic power of a popular rock club from Sverdlovsk (which was the name of the city at that time).
Modernity
The return of the temple occurred in the late 20th century to the Orthodox Church, not to the Old Believers. Restoration of the shining gold domes, painting of the walls, formation of the interior lasted about 4 years. In September 2000. Holy Trinity Cathedral was solemnly consecrated and opened.
Now in the temple hold all significant church holidays, here are exhibited relics of Orthodoxy, delivered from other countries or regions of Russia. In 2011 there was a mass arrival of pilgrims who wanted to worship the belt of the Mother of God: 150 thousand people could do it in 4 days.
The majestic building amazes with its incredible beauty, attracts with the invested strength and wisdom of generations, fills with sadness for the years of neglect, inspires pride and respect for the return, revival, life!
