The modern look of the Catalan capital cannot be imagined without the numerous creations of the universally recognized world architectural genius Antoni Gaudi, who gave all his strength and creative inspiration to this most beloved city on the planet. And first of all among all the vast cultural heritage of the great Catalan stands out the Barcelona temple called Sagrada Familia — i.e. the Temple of the Holy Family. The start of the construction of the iconic Christian building was given in the distant 1884. However, the great architect left this world in 1926, and the construction of the main creation of his life is still underway …
La Sagrada Familia is conveniently located in close proximity to the central part of the capital of Catalonia. Under the direct supervision of Antoni Gaudi, the facade of the temple, the apse and the crypt were built. After 1926, the construction of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona was somewhat suspended and frozen. The money for the further construction of this extraordinary object was collected worldwide by charitable donations from all those who wished to join the truly great cause. In 1952, the construction of the Passion of the Lord was begun by the disciples of the great architect, namely Domènech Sugráñez, Isidra Puch and Francesca Quintana.
Interesting fact: at one time, the great Antonio Gaudi, talking about the Church of the Holy Family, then and there in every possible way noted that this will not be far from the last cathedral erected by him, but only the first creation of this kind of qualitatively new series. This is a kind of Temple of the Atonement of Sins, the process of creation of which the great son of Catalonia devoted most of his life. The most valuable part of this building is rightly considered to be the Nativity Façade, which includes 4 towers with original silhouettes and unique rich ornamental decorations. Being nowadays a kind of graphic recognizable symbols of the beauty of Barcelona, they are distinguished by their hexoidal structure and decorations of fanciful twisted staircases.
The Sagrada Familia temple according to the idea of its author was to turn into one of the centers and stronghold of the Catholic faith in the world. Pope Leon XIII actively supported the construction of the temple. In 1900, the poet João Maragel called this religious building the Cathedral of the Poor. Five years later, it was called the New Cathedral of Greater Barcelona. Every year hundreds of thousands of tourists and travelers from all over the world visit this amazing place. According to the plan, the construction should be finally finished in 2025.
