Bridge over the Amur River in Khabarovsk. Worthy to confirm the greatness of Russia

Beautiful, severe, powerful, interesting Khabarovsk with an incredibly attractive history is the owner of a real miracle. Yes, yes! Surprisingly, but in the 21st century it is difficult to even understand how over 100 years ago they could build a grandiose structure, the admiration for which is growing every year, but in no way diminishing.

We are talking about the perfect embodiment of progressive engineering thought — the bridge that connected the banks of the Amur River and still retains the primacy of the largest bridge crossing both within the Transsib and Russia.

Some names of the bridge

The bridge was named Alexeyevsky, immortalizing the name of Alexey Nikolaevich, the young Tsesarevich. In this regard, the bridge began to be colloquially called «Tsarsky». However, another name took root — «Amur Miracle», which also reflects the essence of the striking construction.

The footsteps of inaudible history…

Construction of the grandiose even by today’s standards began with a ceremonial groundbreaking in the summer of 1913. It was planned that the construction would last about 2 years, but the First World War made its corrections. Instead of the last trusses, which were delivered by a very long chain of transshipments from Warsaw, new ones were ordered in Canada, which resulted in a longer waiting period.

The bridge was consecrated and opened to traffic in the fall of 1916. Thus the construction of one of the longest highways in the world — the Trans-Siberian Railway — was completed.

Significant Modernity

Many tourist companies in Khabarovsk offer a separate itinerary, allowing you to get acquainted with the crown of the Great Siberian Road, visit the museum, learn about the people who tied their fate to the amazingly important structure, about the methods of mining, manufacturing and delivery of various materials.

In the 90s of the 20th century the bridge was reconstructed. The project provided two tiers for separation and convenience of movement of railroad and motor transport.

Admiration of the Amur’s majesty was successfully embodied by the authors of the reconstruction project in the architecture of the bridge that it looks unsurpassed!
