«In the beginning was the word.» So it is written in the Bible. And so it is in Ukraine. First, the festival «Tavrian Games» appeared, and then, in its image and likeness, the «Tavrian Wave» was created. But if the Games are created for adult musicians and models, the Wave is designed for children. Indeed, at the «Tavrian Wave» the whole competition program is designed exclusively for minors, and adult uncles and aunts are let on stage only to fill the pauses, work in the jury or clap loudly, sitting in the hall.
Where to look for this specialized children’s festival? «Tavrian wave» annually rolls up on the shore of Skadovsk. Such a «tsunami» is usually expected here in the second half of July — early August, so the city has time to prepare for this spontaneous b…, no, spontaneous happiness.
The organizer of the unique all-Ukrainian festival for children is the Kherson Regional Administration. Why the choice fell on Skadovsk, when in the Kherson region there are a lot of other settlements located on the seashore? Because this town has long been considered a children’s resort. It has a comfortable, dry climate, sandy beaches and shallow sea, closed from the outside world by the Jarylgacha Spit. That is, parents and educators of family-type children’s homes are already well aware of this resort, all its resorts and beaches. That is why adults gladly take their children to Skadovsk for the festival or buy tickets to concerts, if their time in the resort coincides with the events included in the program of the «Tavrian Wave».
Due to the fact that the main actors at the festival are children, this event is a bit stretched in time. For about 3 weeks only qualifying rounds are held, during which more than 1000 children, and with them parents or guardians, have time to recuperate in Skadovsk.
The festival «Tavrian Wave» welcomes children from Ukraine who are engaged in vocal, choreography, visual arts or perform in original genre. Solo, duet, trio or group performances are allowed. The genre is classical, folk or pop. For dancers, in addition to the above three styles, added jazz-modern and sports-ballroom dancing. The original genre implies numbers on power or jump acrobatics.
All children, even in the creative team, receive a diploma for participation in the festival, so every child leaves Skadovsk as a winner. There are cases when patrons for young artists are found right during the performance, so no child left the stage with a brand new bicycle, tablet or cell phone.
In the middle of August, the finals are held in the district House of Culture, and for the Gala Concert young artists are traditionally invited to the Embankment, where all those who are on vacation in Skadovsk can admire the young stars. Thanks to the festival «Tavrian Wave» more and more parents learn about the recreational opportunities of Skadovsk, and more and more children, even from the poorest and most disadvantaged families, get the opportunity to visit the Black Sea coast.
