Every year the number of Ukrainian citizens traveling abroad increases. The most visited countries invariably remain neighboring countries. Hungary is one of the leading countries in this list.
The Hungarian Republic is a part of the Schengen zone, so the procedure for visa issuance and rules of crossing the border of the state are regulated by the norms and agreements adopted among the members of the European Union. In order to facilitate the procedure of obtaining a Schengen visa, representatives of the European Community and Ukraine signed an agreement. Thanks to this document, Ukrainians have the opportunity to obtain a permit to enter Hungary with less time and material resources. Hungarian citizens, in turn, have the right to cross the territory of Ukraine for the purpose of transit or stay on the territory of the state for up to 90 days without a visa.
It should be noted that Ukrainian citizens are now not obliged to issue visa to Hungary of category A, if they are in the territory of this country passing through. A short-term entry visa of category C is required if the flight arrives at Terminal 1 of Budapest International Airport, as there is no transit zone in this terminal. The amount of visa fee for short-term visa for Ukrainian citizens is 35 euros. In case of necessity to stay on the territory of the Hungarian Republic for more than 90 days a visa of category D is issued. The cost of processing a residence permit in this case will be 60 euros. In addition, the previously mentioned agreement defines the category of Ukrainian citizens who are exempted from paying the visa fee. These include: members of official delegations invited to events held by intergovernmental organizations; employees of public authorities, constitutional and supreme courts; journalists, children under 18 years of age, etc.
The documents submitted to the consular department are usually considered within 10 days from the date of payment of the visa fee. If a visa is denied, Ukrainian citizens have the right to receive a written explanation of the reasons for the refusal. In case you decide to appeal the decision of the consulate, you are given the opportunity to appeal by paying a preliminary fee of 30 euros. The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is obliged to consider your application within 15 days and make a decision.
