Harkiv is the second most populous Ukrainian city and the largest in eastern Ukraine. Southern station, which is the main station of the city, is located at the station Kharkov-Passazhirsky, belonging to the Southern Railway. The station is a border station. There is a customs office, which checks every train crossing the Russian-Ukrainian border.
The train schedule of this station is quite voluminous. From Kharkiv trains run to many Ukrainian cities: Kiev, Lviv, Donetsk, Lugansk, Sumy. There are also many routes connecting this city with the cities of Crimea. There are also international routes to Moscow, Tashkent, Baku. In addition to direct flights, the final destination of which is Kharkiv, the schedule also contains many passing trains that make a stop at this station. These are mostly trains traveling from Moscow and St. Petersburg to different cities of Ukraine. There are also a lot of Minsk trains, whose final destinations are Russian and Crimean cities.
The schedule of electric trains contains six directions: to Belgorod, to Merefa, to Lyubotin, to Zmiyov, to Zolochev and to Lozovaya. Electric trains going in Belgorod direction go to Kazachya Lopan. And to Zaporizhzhya and Dnipropetrovsk there are express trains, which are less than 5 hours away.
Another important transportation hub of Kharkiv is its bus station. From here many buses perform inter- and intra-regional flights of Kiev, Poltava, Zaporizhzhya, Lugansk directions, as well as in the direction of Donetsk and Dnepropetrovsk. Besides, there are many international flights to Moscow, Orel, Kursk, Kishinev, as well as to Riga, Wroclaw and Dusseldorf. In addition to the bus station in Kharkiv there are four more bus stations, which perform mainly suburban and intra-regional transportation.
The main intracity transport of Kharkov can be rightfully called the subway. This underground transportation system is second only to the underground system of the Kiev subway in size in Ukraine. It consists of three lines: Kholodnogorskaya, Saltovskaya and Alekseevskaya. The longest line is the Kholodnogorskaya branch, which allows you to get from any district of Kharkiv to its main industrial facilities: Malyshev Plant and Tractor Plant. The system of the Kharkiv subway also includes a metro bridge across the Kharkiv River, the length of which is 980 meters.
